In Memory of Mr. Edward E. Martins, Esq. |
It is with great sadness we share the passing of Mr. Edward Emilio Martins, who died peacefully in September at UCSF surrounded by family. A longtime supporter of Chabot College, Mr. Martins and the Donna and Edward Martins Foundation made a lasting impact through student scholarships, faculty excellence awards, donations to the Nursing Program, and a transformative $5 million gift for the Donna and Edward Martins Library and Learning Center - the largest in the college’s history.
Mr. Martins had a long legacy of service to Chabot College. After starting at UC Berkeley at age 16, he was drafted into the U.S. Army, later returning to complete a business degree and earn his law degree from USF in 1953. He practiced law in Hayward for decades and was admitted to the U.S. Supreme Court in 1958. He was elected to the South County Community College District Board of Trustees, Chabot College's founding board, and was the longest surviving Trustee.
He was a true philanthropist, supporting many other organizations locally and internationally. You can learn more about the projects supported by the Martins Foundation by visiting their website.
The photo at left is from Mr. Martins' 95th birthday celebration, which featured a Chabot color theme. |

Veterans Center Partnership with Veterans of Foreign Wars |
| |
On Monday, September 8th, the Chabot Veterans Resource Center (VRC) team had the honor of visiting the monthly meeting of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW). Their mission is to foster camaraderie among U.S. veterans of overseas conflicts, advocate on behalf of all veterans, and ensure that veterans and their families are always respected and supported.
We’re excited to share the VFW graciously donated $1,200 to support the Chabot College Veterans Center to help obtain official military branch flags, poles, toppers, and bases to proudly display in the Center. |

We are still seeking donations and sponsorships for additional official flags, items supporting Chabot Veteran students' basic needs, and scholarships. Consider donating today! |
